Gay Friendly Places, Cancun

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Who wouldn’t like Cancun’s lovely white beaches, historical sites, and a nightlife that can’t be beat? This is a great city for gays to visit and provides a lot of places for a gay tourist to go that are in operation solely to entertain gay visitors. No one should go to Cancun without sampling a bit of everything from the rich tradition of the Mayans.

Cancun offers both modern day fun in the busy city and historical, educational benefits in the ancient ruins nearby. Make sure you plan for at least a day to tour the Temple of Kukulcan. The place of prayer is worth seeing, however there is a valid excuse to come soon when one travels when it is Spring or Autumn Equinox.

While the sun moves slowly across the sky, the corner of the pyramid casts a shadow of the great plumed serpent Kukulcan. As day wears on and the sun moves, the shadow does also and the serpent begins to slither slowly down the pyramid side.

This beautiful city on the Yucatan Peninsula in an area referred to as the Mexican Caribbean, had only three residents, caretakers for a coconut plantation, until the building of the city in 1970. Until then, it contained the remnants of the Mayans, natural beauty and of course, coconut trees. Today, you’ll find the magic of the ancient mixed with a modern city whose oldest building came after 1970.

Cancun is appropiate place for those who like water and sun. While all the beaches in Cancun are beautiful, the white sand beaches across from Ruinas del Rey is a mainstay for the gay scene. A gay friendly location, Cancun offers fantastic places to meet a special someone, especially on the sandy, sunny beaches.

If you want to do more than bake under the rays or walk along the shoreline, there are plenty of more physical activities available. You want something different to do at night, enjoy you supper on the bow of a boat.

With all the activities of the day, take a nap after dinner to prepare for the nightlife. Nightlife doesn’t begin until 10:30 and then goes through the night to 5:00 in the morning.

There is a large diversity in the bar scene, but if you are looking to mesh with the gay scene, Karamba is the place to go. There’s entertainment to suite every taste in popular music. Get a seat early, because after midnight, the joint fills up with locals, but the place only holds 450 people.

Picante a gay bar in Cancun, and it is the oldest one in the city. Every night there’s a party here, but on special occasions, such as holidays, fantastic performances and fun costumes spice them up. Go on Thursday for Tequila night and free shots.

You can find a lot of gay friendly hotels and resorts like Hyatt Regency Cancun, Gran Melia Cancun, Presidente InterContinental and The Ritz-Carlton.

Gay Travel Recommendation: Xel-Ha

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

In ancient years, it was Xel-Ha that was quite important to all the Mayan people. It was where they would all come in order to offer respect to their various Mayan gods by doing rituals and many dances. Of course much has changed since those days.

These days, Xel-Ha is one of the biggest aquariums around and a marvelous snorkeling spot. Most people come here to snorkel because it offers such an amazing experience.

The popular Xel-Ha is a site that is archaeological and you’ll find it in Mexico, located on the Yucatan Peninsula. The area is extremely beautiful in a manner that is just about tropical paradise.

The sea has a lovely color of blue and green, enticing you to dive on in to the beautiful waters. Everyone would want a swim if all of the seas out there had this great look to them.

The city of Cancun is only about seventy five miles away to the south of Xel-Ha. If you want to go to Cancun, you can get there by car, you can take a taxi, or rid the bus. If you are going to take public transportation, the ride to the park is available for free. This way you don’t have to worry about trying to get the park on your own.

Some great water activities are available in Xel-Ha for kids and adults. These seas allow you to have a great time kayaking, or you can try out snorkeling, Sea Trek, Aquaventura, or even Snuba. Of course you don’t just have to stay in the water. A variety of great land activities exist too. Interested in knowing a bit more about Xel-Ha and it’s past? Well, according to legend the city was first started at a time when the Mayan gods brought together shrewdness, love, and fantasies in order to make this place to bring together the beauty and greatness of nature. Supposedly this is the reason that the entire area is so amazingly beautiful, since it is thousands of years old. While some only think this is a myth, there are others that truly believe that this is true.

To get into this park, you will have to pay some kind of fee. The fees will differ depending on what you do, but they are not too pricey. Kids are cheaper than adults are. It’s definitely worth the price to enjoy the lovely park. With all the great sites available, you’ll be happy to pay to get in.

See Anglesey Coast from Menai Straits Bridge, Road Link to Anglesey Built by Telford

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

When you approach Anglesey in North Wales you will see the enigmatic Menai Straits Bridge, designed and constructed by Thomas Telford, the famous 19th century engineer. The strong tidal waters crossing to Anglesey from the mainland has been a challenge for centuries and finally Telford and his team managed to come up with an innovative design which was up to the task. You will enjoy the coastal views from this bridge as you cross to the island for your vacation.

A look back in history hints that Menai Bridge, today a bustling town next to the bridge, was a Roman settlement, which was accessed by a small ferry across the Menai Straits, linking the place where island and mainland are closest. Looking north you may see the Lavan sands, west of Bangor, from where monks bound for Penmon Priory would make their way at low tide for Llanfaes on Anglesey, just north of Beaumaris.

So what events led to Telford being commissioned with the task of constructing such this impressive Menai Straits Bridge, an innovative example of civil engineering for the early nineteenth century? Following the Act of Union between Britain and Ireland in 1800 pressure grew for a far more efficient transport link between London and the Irish capital, Dublin.

The story of the famous composer Handel trying to get to Dublin in 1742 suggests how difficult it was to travel between England and Ireland. As if it was not enough to get through the Snowdon Mountains, the traveller still had to negotiate crossing the Menai Straits and then sail from Holyhead to Dublin.

There was already a ship to Ireland from the Port of Holyhead, and so a bridge crossing to Anglesey island was the last piece in the jigsaw. After much pressure in political circles construction work started on the bridge in 1819. Limestone from nearby Penmon quarry on Anglesey was used to construct the two huge towers that are still a key feature of the bridge today. Originally sixteen wrought iron chain cables supported the bridge across the 175 metre expanse, but these were replaced by steel cables in 1939.

Just stop to think how travel has changed enormously since the times before this bridge was built. Prior to 1826 a journey from London to Holyhead would take around 36 hours, and the opening of the Menai Suspension Bridge reduced that to a mere 27 hours. Today you can get from London to Holyhead by road in about 6 hours or so, thanks to a combination of motorway, internal combustion engine and Thomas Telford’s Menai Straits Bridge.

When you come to Anglesey, you will find there are some great coastal and wooded walks close by on both sides of this bridge, which are signposted and accessed easily. And from the bridge as you look northwards, you see Menai Bridge harbour below with small yachts and the Bangor University ocean research ship moored nearby in the tidal waters. Yachts can pass under the bridge even at high water, as they sail up towards Beaumaris and Puffin Island.

As you stand on the bridge looking south west, see how the strong Menai Straits currents flow towards the dual rail and road Britannia Bridge and on past Caernarfon Castle to the open sea. Off the Anglesey Coastline to the south is a small island, Ynys Gorad Goch, while on the shoreline a Statue of Admiral Nelson stands, and nearby is the former Indefatigable Sailing School. You can indulge your senses in all these experiences from the high vantage point of this enigmatic Menai Straits Bridge.

The author, David Phillips, writes from beautiful Anglesey, North Wales, and runs a helpful website focusing on local news and features about the island. Discover more about Menai Straits Bridge, a remarkable attraction and example of 19th century civil engineering achievement.

Fundamental Camping Out Knowledge Everybody Should Adopt

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Camping pointers can save your life. It will make a fundamental difference between a great camping holiday and one that you would not enjoy. But camping knowledge is simply that; tips. Camping tips are not principles you should live by. Although several camping tips are thought to be stuck to by the word, not all of them will apply to every situation.

Camping knowledge is useful but understand that there is constantly a healthier and simpler way of doing stuff. Especially in the wilderness where it can get somewhat unpredictable, some camping tips may appear like a good thing to follow but if matters don’t turn out as luck would have it you should consider other alternatives.

Never ignore a viable way of performing things only because of some camping tips. Recall that it’s the wild outdoors and an opportunity to turn creative. In no way am I suggesting that you neglect all of the known camping tips. In fact I am supporting you to try them out before you go for a camping out trip. I’m just articulating you should be subject to other possibilities, new ways of doing things with stronger and more intelligent camping out equipment (or even without it).

Many camping knowledge might be timeless still and might keep you from producing misunderstandings that might place you in peril or make your holiday uncomfortable. An example of a camping out vacation that is frequent is producing a camping checklist when you prepare your camping out gear, equipment and supplies in front of the camping holiday. Camping Out checklists are critical to everyone’s success at camping and they develop as you grow more knowledgeable and are applicable to various situations.

To bring what you need or what you’re likely to want with you can quite honestly mean life or death especially if you’re hiking up in the wild where camping and hiking gear is more critical, unless of course you’re a member of the armed service’s special forces. But you ought to understand that even veteran hikers/campers who have been doing it for ages still refer to camping out checklists for their camping and hiking equipment, gear and supplies preparation.

One of those camping out tips that experts like to speak about in the beginning and for an essential reason is the need for hiking boots. If one is only camping out along a campground where not much walking is involved you can pretty much utilize whatever footgear you prefer. If you are hiking, it’s crucial that you utilize a good pair of hiking boots that are comfortable, protects one’s feet, supports your feet under big burdens, has great ventilation yet still repels water and adjustable enough that it encourages your foot’s normal motion.

Habana’s Cathedral, A Site Worth Visiting.

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

It is not possible to mention the beauties of Havana without including The Cathedral Square. With its cobbled streets and beautiful facades it captivates visitors from all over the world.

In earlier times it was named Plaza de la Cinaga (Swamp Square), and later on “Plaza de la Catedral”, it is a place that has much to do with the beginning of Havana, founded on the 16th Century in the proximities of Havana’s harbour.

The name is due to a large cathedral built first as oratory of the Hijos de San Ignacio, of the Jesuit order, which first stone was placed in 1748. After three decades the oratory was built, the Cathedral was already functioning, and between 1802 and 1832, important restoration works were made. Beautifully decorated, with important works and copies made by the French Jean Baptiste Vermay, it is a place worth visiting.

Numerous important gatherings take place in this astonishing little spot of Havana. Festival, music concerts and gala dinners for important groups have found the perfect venue in Cathedral Square. The weather is always nice and the atmosphere can not be better. Surrounded by a magnificent architecture and serenaded by some always excellent Cuban music can be the ideal perfect evening.

As a special feature, one of the nearby alleys is the seat of the most famous Cuban restaurant: La Bodeguita del Medio which reaffirms its quality after serving for more than 60 years since its foundation. It is an emblematic restaurant for the Cuban tourism, with the walls full of around two million autographs of all clients from different time periods, and photographs left by outstanding figures such as Ernest Hemingway, Mario Benedetti, Pablo Neruda or Errol Fryn.

The list of celebrities is long, including cinema artists, painters, politicians, dancers and musicians, both foreign and Cuban, where this country’s national poet Nicols Guilln (deceased) had his space too.

Many people spend time chatting in this site which is always amusing due to the presence of guitarists and singers, as it has happened for more than six decades, when its founder Angel Martinez (deceased), used to personally inquire about the likes of his guests.

A word of advice is to find a hotel in the old town, there are about 15 of them and they are very small, cosy and boutique hotels with very affordable prices. Santa Isabel and Florida hotels have both the best standard of service and location. Every thing you need to do or see will be walking distance from your hotels. At the end of the day you do not want the hassle of having to take taxis while on your holidays.

Travel to Cuba.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

In this article I would like to give my point of view about these package holidays to Cuba that are sold by big tour operators at a very good price. Cuba has a great appeal as a tourist destination for holiday seekers and one of its main attributes is its beaches.

In order to be more specific lets take a look at Guardalavaca area, this paradise of turquoise color beaches and white sand is a favorite among vacationers and has an international airport about 40 minutes by couch located in the province of Holguin.

In this beach area you can get pure leisure and lodging standards that array from 3 to 5 star quality properties. There are only 3 hotels in the area so you will in no way feel compacted by the multitude of beach lovers that can be found on any popular beach location around the Globe. If you are traveling with your children Cayo Santa Maria presents the opportunity of accepting kids but if you are looking for a property for adults only this location can also go well with your demands.

Accommodation in Guardalavaca is based in all inclusive plans so there is no need to worry about where to go and eat as all meals will be provided in your hotel. If anything you will only have to chose from either the buffet restaurant or any of the a la carte restaurant that offer exquisite menus. The hotels offer also outstanding spectacles equal in quality to any of the most important Cabarets in Cuba. All sorts of non motorized water sports are available and included in the room prices.

Lots of table games, archery, salsa and Spanish lessons and water sports that do not require fuel are included within the price you paid for you package holiday. You will not be required to spend a penny while staying in your hotel. All of them have one buffet restaurant and at least 2 or 3 a la carte restaurants. These last ones will require a reservation made from the reception of the hotels everyday from 7 to 12 AM.

But it is a real shame if you take such a long flight top visit Cuba and end up only staying on a beach resort. Cuba is a mystic, romantic destination with lots of other attributes other than beautiful beaches. I strongly recommend you visit Havana the Capital of Cuba. Now in this case it is a lot better to contact one of the specialists in holidays to Cuba.

If you are looking to combine in your holidays beaches, history, culture and impressive architecture then get in touch with any of the smaller tour operators. They have very good contracts with all the service providers in Cuba and can put together whichever itinerary within the island you have in mind.

If you are not lucky and find one of this specialists or you are simply tempted by the very cheap prices of the big tour operators that only do beach holidays, I still recommend you take an excursion from your hotel to visit Havana or any other important city. At the end of the day you can not say you have been to Cuba if you only stayed on a huge all inclusive resort by the beach which could be anywhere in the world.
