Using a Zippo to Light a Cigar

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Some cigar smokers enjoy nothing more than getting out on the water, in the woods or to the campground and lighting up their favorite brand of cigar. Being outside, there are no concerns about the aroma and one is free to puff to their heart’s content. Of course, lighting a cigar is a particularly intricate affair and doing it incorrectly can ruin a fine smoking session. There are several ways in which one may overcome this though some of them carry some concerns about influencing the taste of the cigar in a negative way.

Lighting a cigar with a Zippo has been a debate in the cigar aficionado community for a long time. These lighters have been around since World War 1 when they were offered to soldiers as a way of generating light without the position-betraying flare characteristic of a match. While matches may have been a liability in the trenches, many cigar smokers prefer them for lighting up in modern times, claiming that it is the best way to get a cigar burning without adding any unpleasant taste.

A butane lighter is oftentimes used by individuals who don’t want the hassle of matches but who want the convenience of a Zippo without the lighter fluid. Butane lighters combust very efficiently and the fuel does not at all affect the taste of the tobacco. There are several models of these lighters available and many are refillable. The very advanced models are almost as reliable in the wind as are their fluid-filled rivals.

As is the case with everything concerning cigars, whether or not to use a Zippo is a matter of personal preference. These lighters are often heirloom items and using them is something of a ritual for some people. If one should detect an unpleasant chemical taste fouling that of their favorite cigar, the solution may be to purchase a higher-end fluid. Some fluids advertise that they give no taste to the tobacco at all and, even among very discriminating smokers, these fluids are a popular option.

Cigars are a very personal thing. If one wishes to use their Zippo then, by all means, they should do so. While some smokers may wince at the sight, a cigar is meant to be enjoyed in a way that offers the best experience possible and, given some people’s attachment to their Zippos, there is no reason that they should feel that using those lighters is out of bounds when enjoying a fine cigar.

Beach And Party Holidays To Magaluf

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Holidays to Magaluf are certainly not difficult to find and with plenty of competition, it should not be difficult to find an all inclusive package deal at a great price. There are also plenty of accommodation options to choose from with something that is suitable for every type of budget. Although Magaluf is possibly most famous for its nightlife, there is a lot more to it and that.

Firstly, Magaluf has a legendary nightlife with famous DJs from around the world coming to visit and play there. There are plenty of other functions on and a plethora of activities to indulge in. No matter what type of tourist are or what type of budget you are on, Magaluf is sure to have something to suit everyone.

Magaluf also has one of the longest beaches in the area and although there are very many people going there, the sheer size of the place will often mean that you don’t have to be completely surrounded by crowds, especially if you go slightly off season. However, avoid going in the winter months since most of the venues close down completely.

No one will be getting bored in the island and if you get tired of the resort itself, there is also plenty more to see on the island including a particularly attractive capital, Palma De Mallorca. However, if you prefer not to, there is not even any reason to leave the resort since there is certainly plenty to do there as well.

With just about every travel agency in the United Kingdom arranging packages to Majorca, you should have no problem finding great holidays to Magaluf. However, if you want to avoid the worst of the crowds, then you can go slightly off season but just remember the place entirely closes down in the winter so the best time to go is perhaps June and September. There are always many special deals on and you certainly don’t have to spend a great deal of money.

Earn Dollars Whilst Travelling on Cruise Ships

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

There are many different types of people who find themselves craving a bit of adventure, yet don’t have the funds to just go off into the wild blue yonder. Some go backpacking - working along the way picking fruit or doing bar jobs. Others choose to set sail on the many different cruise ship operators around the world. The major difference I guess would be that you are being paid to travel around the globe instead of going from place to place earning enough money to move on to the next destination.

Working on a cruise ship often invokes images of adventure, fun, alcohol and lots of sex. Speaking as one who has done it all this and more is all true.

When you work on a cruise ship you eat, sleep and breathe life on the seas. A major bonus of being part of a cruise ship crew is that you are being paid to have fun and adventure. Alcohol is cheap as chips (as little as a dollar a drink), and you’ll find yourself amongst likeminded people who all want the same things. Not to mention that there is a lot of room swapping and sleepovers.

One of the best things about travelling this way is that everything is paid for including your room, food and board and the pay can sometimes be quite substantial. People who have been at it for a few years or more often own their own houses outright and those that have chosen to do it as a career are often quite wealthy.

It must be mentioned that cruise ship life is not always for everyone and there have been people who have signed on only to catch the next plane home again. Yet those that are more willing to give things a go and get along with people, find that they have the time of their lives. As part of working on the ships, you end up making friends with people from all over the world. One thing to keep in mind that cruise ship life can be intense. Allot of cruise ships operate 24/7 and therefore you could find yourself having time off rather than whole days. However the people I have come across do not find this to be an issue as the work they do is totally an enjoyable experience.

One important thing to consider is that different cruise companies have different levels of freedom or privileges whilst on the ship. Cruise companies such as Disney, which is a Christian Family Values type of Company, can be quite restrictive on their crewmembers. In example I believe that you have to be a non-smoker and alcohol is heavily frowned upon when working for Disney. From what I can tell, the best Cruise company to work for in terms of freedom and rates of pay is Princess Cruises.

If the money or the thrill adventure is enticing you to think about applying, make sure to think about it carefully before signing up. Things that must be taken into account is the fact that you will have initial expenses that include a full medical check up, sea safety training as well as travelling expenses to meet up with the cruise ship, after which this initial expense the company generally pays. You are signing up for a contract period of about 6 - 8 months that will mean you will be away from your family and friends. (Although most cruise ship companies offer very cheap deals for family members to visit). If it still sounds enticing and you decide to take on the experience then you will surely have an experience of a lifetime.
